Reynolds & Rowella, LLP saves time and money with CCH’s new research tool
 
 
Reynolds & Rowella, LLP, a 24-year-old midsize regional firm, handles several thousand individual and about 500 business tax returns annually — entirely paperless. “Everything is either scanned in or handled online,” says Jarrett G. Meiers, the firm’s resident technology champion.  
 
“We’ve been implementing paperless processing for about five years now, a little at a time,” Meiers says. “This time around we had no paper left to keep on file. Everything was scanned in or sent back to the client.”
 
The five-partner firm, with three offices and 35 employees, has been using ProSystem fx® Scan, ProSystem fx Document and ProSystem fx Tax for its paperless office, and just added IntelliConnect® into the mix for tax research. IntelliConnect is a powerful research platform, providing unprecedented access to the industry’s best tax and accounting information in just a few seconds.
 
IntelliConnect is the latest piece of the firm’s paperless plan, Meiers says. He was an early tester of the product, and used nearly every feature to get a better idea of its capabilities. “I even tried out things like legal research — which we don’t really use here — just to see how it worked,” he says.
 
IntelliConnect has been invaluable for tax research, Meiers says. “We find it most useful in multistate situations — and we have some weird cases involving farming.” He also recently used it to navigate the rules on energy tax credits, as well as to look up many other complex tax codes. “We use it anytime we aren’t quite sure about a tax matter.”
 
Since his team just recently migrated to IntelliConnect, Meiers expects that he’ll see even more time savings, resulting in increased productivity and a direct boost to the firm's bottom line.
